Construction and Adoption

Renovations to the Wake County Animal Center (WCAC) are moving along as planned and are on schedule for having the dog rooms done by the end of March. As with most things good in the animal rescue world there is a flip side and for us it’s that we have over a dozen dogs in boarding that will need to find their furever families or come back to the shelter.

So, to help with that some of the volunteers are planning a big green adoption carnival for this Saturday, March 15th from noon to 3 p.m. There is going to be a doggy kisses booth and rumor has it that there will be a special guest kisser, Koko the WCAC mascot, so you don’t want to miss that! And although there are some nice raffle prizes, more than anything you want to come meet the dogs! Volunteers will be bringing some of the boarders from Suite Paws for you to meet and I’m sure a few fosters will also bring their pups around. Check out these sweeties here and come meet them in person Saturday – I just know you’ll find furever love.

A Community Event

It takes a dedicated community of staff, volunteers, and rescue partners to save the animals we do. Stop by CareFirst Animal Hospital (9500 Falls of Neuse Rd.Raleigh, NC 27615) between 2 and 4 p.m. to meet some sweet seniors. WCAC and Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation are co-hosting this event to promote some of our older cats and dogs looking for their furever homes. I understand. I too am susceptible to puppy eyes, puppy breath, and kitty antics, but making an older pet a member of your family is so rewarding. First of all, they are most likely housetrained – woot! And are probably over any inappropriate chewing stages. They love to just chill with you – unless you have an active lifestyle. I’ve met plenty of senior pups with a spring in their step and a love of the agility course. So be sure to stop by and see the distinguished faces looking for love.

Too Busy Saturday

If your weekends are like mine, Saturdays can be a little crazy to try to fit in one more thing – like finding a new furever love. Well, the good folks at WCAC have thought of that and the folks at Pet Supplies Plus have once again stepped up. Come to a “long-timer” adoption event there on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Besides an opportunity to win a raffle prize or two there will be about a dozen dogs who have been in the WCAC system for more than 30 days looking for their furever family. AND there is a special adoption rate of just $50 for these sweethearts.

Did You Miss the Kitten Shower?

I know I talk a lot about dogs in this blog, but cats are pretty cool and the WCAC is overflowing with them most days as well. It’s also kitten season just around the corner and the WCAC is working to get a jump start on it. On March 11 & 12 the WCAC hosted a Kitten Shower to collect specific donations from our Kitten Wishlist. You can still stop by to drop off your donations, mingle with other cat lovers, and get some kitten love.
